Gas Leak Detection

LH&H uses several different methods to detect gas leaks. Isolating a leak to your house or yard can be found by shutting off gas to the house at the shut of the valve. We check for air escaping from the fittings by using soap bubbles. This method can be used to check for gas leaks in your yard and house.

If there is a gas leak in your yard, the entire yard service may need to be replaced if the fittings are leaking. If the leak is found in your house we can decide if your need a simple repair or a new gas line once we find the leak and see how severe. Gas lines can be found in several different parts of a home: in the attic, under a pier and beam home, or at the gas hook-ups.

Gas Leak Testing

LH&H can perform a gas leak test to determine if your gas system has a leak. We install a pressure gauge assembly on the gas riser at the meter and pump air into the system. We watch the gauge meter to see if the gauge hand is moving or not. This method allows us to test the entire gas system.

We can also test for gas leaks in the house alone by installing the pressure gauge assembly to your house gas line.

Gas Leak Repair

More often than not, gas leak repairs require a permit from your city's municipality. Once the permit is obtained, LH&H can begin to repair the gas leak. Leaks within a home can require that the pipe is taken apart and reconnected to fix the leak. Above and outside gas leaks can require the same treatment, but can also require the entire underground line be replaced depending on the severity of the leak and the state of your pipes.

If your underground line does need to be replaced, some sort of excavation, such as trenching or boring, will be needed. We will also bring the gas system up to current building code standards during our repair if it is needed.
